Getting Stremio, Vidi & TorBox running
This is the exact setup I use for watching almost anything, on almost any screen. It takes about fifteen minutes the first time. Follow it in order — each step needs the one before it.
How the three pieces fit together
You don't need to understand this to follow the steps — but it makes the "why" of each step click.
Before you start
- A working email address, and a card or account you can use for a small monthly subscription.
- Know which device you'll mainly watch on — it decides whether you install Stremio or Vidi in Step 3.
- Ten to fifteen minutes where you can sit at a browser first, then switch to your TV/phone.
Setup, step by step
Create your TorBox account
Sign up using this link and confirm your email. Then pick a plan — the entry-level "Essential" tier is enough for one household streaming casually. Prices and tiers change, so treat the pricing page as the source of truth rather than any number written elsewhere.
Cheapest way to pay: buy a 12-month plan and pay with crypto — TorBox's lowest per-month rate. If that's more hassle than it's worth, a regular monthly or annual subscription with a card works fine too.
Find your API key
Once logged in, click your profile icon, go to Settings, then scroll down — your key is under API Key. Click to reveal it.
Keep this private. Your API key is effectively the password to your TorBox account. Don't post it in a chat, screenshot, or share it — anyone who has it can stream on your quota. If you ever suspect it's leaked, regenerate it from the same page.
Install the app for your device
Pick whichever column matches where you'll be watching. You can install both if you use more than one type of device — see the FAQ below if you're not sure whether you need one or both.
Not sure your device is supported? Stremio's downloads page lists every platform it runs on.
Got a Roku TV? Roku doesn't run Stremio directly. Grab a cheap Onn (Walmart's house brand) streaming stick — usually $20 or less — plug it into an HDMI port, and install Stremio's Android TV app on that instead. Works great, and the same trick fixes Samsung, LG and other smart TVs without a Stremio app.
Stremio
- Install the app from stremio.com/downloads (or the Play Store on TV/Android).
- Open Stremio and sign in or create an account — you'll add addons in the next steps.
Vidi
- Buy and install Vidi · Media Center from the App Store (it's a one-time paid app, no separate subscription).
- Open Vidi — you'll add addons in the next steps.
Recommended for Stremio users: set up Trakt (free) so what you watch is tracked across every device, not just one. It's built in — in Stremio go to Settings → Streaming → Trakt Scrobbling → Authenticate.
Add the catalog addon (Vidi only)
Stremio already includes Cinemeta — the catalog that gives you posters, titles and search — out of the box, so Stremio users can skip this step. Vidi doesn't include it, so on iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, open Vidi's addon screen and paste this address in:
Add more sources
Each of these searches torrent sites and routes whatever it finds through your TorBox account, so installing a few gives you far better coverage than any one alone. Same recipe for each: open the configure page, choose TorBox as the debrid provider, paste your API key from Step 2, then install — then bring the link into Stremio the same way each time:
MediaFusion

Streaming Catalogs
catalogDifferent job — no debrid key needed. Adds "what's on Netflix / Disney+ / Prime / HBO" rows to your Home screen for browsing; playback still runs through the source addons above.
- Open the Streaming Catalogs configure page
- Pick your country, or leave it on "Any"
- Click Install addon — or copy the link and paste it into Stremio or Vidi's Add Addon screen if that doesn't open your app
Same rule as Step 2: your TorBox API key is going into several sites here. Only ever paste it into an addon's own configure page — never into a chat, form, or anywhere else.
Test it
Search for a well-known movie. Open it, and look at the list of stream options — anything TorBox labels as already cached will start playing in a few seconds. Anything uncached will take longer to become ready, if it works at all. Cached results are what you want.
Most of what you search for will already be cached, so you'll usually have several good options at once. When that happens, just pick the one with the highest seeder count — it's the simplest sign of a solid, reliable copy.
Troubleshooting & questions
The screens or button names don't match this guide
TorBox and Vidi are both actively developed and reshuffle their menus every few months. If a label has moved, search TorBox's own help center for "Stremio addon," or message me — I'd rather fix the guide than have you stuck.
Nothing plays, or everything says "uncached"
Try a more popular title first to confirm the setup works at all — obscure titles genuinely may not be cached yet. If popular titles also fail, double-check you copied your API key from TorBox exactly into each addon's configure page — a mistyped key is the most common culprit.
Do I need Stremio and Vidi?
Depends on your devices. If everything you watch on is either all-Apple (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV) or all-not-Apple (Windows, Mac, Android, Android TV, Fire TV, an Onn stick), one is enough. If your household is mixed — say an iPhone plus a Samsung TV running Stremio through an Onn stick — install both. They don't conflict, and the same TorBox account and addons work in either.
Can I share one TorBox account with family?
Technically the same API key works on multiple devices, but everyone shares one download/stream quota and one subscription tier — two people watching different things at once can bump into plan limits. For more than one household, separate accounts are more reliable.
